Disability Awareness and Education

A Touch of Understanding is a local organization with a mission to encourage acceptance and respect for all individuals and to minimize the discrimination, bullying, and misunderstanding experienced by children and adults who are perceived as different for any reason, but especially for those with disabilities.  Join their team of volunteer instructors who travel to schools across the county, bringing a hands-on disability-awareness program to students.

Volunteers are needed on a regular basis on Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays; the time of day is flexible according to the presentations scheduled, but the commitment is 3 hours once per week or per month.  Volunteers assist local elementary and high school students with program activities that educate and provide tools for conversation and understanding.

Aging Up is an organization dedicated to empowering foster youth through mentorship, group recreation, and skill building. They are in need of a volunteer 2-6 hours per week to assist with bookkeeping, logging expenses, tracking donors, and maintaining the budget, according to their experience.

Office Administrator - ALS Association

The ALS Association is a national not-for-profit solely dedicated to the fight against ALS through research, patient support, information dissemination, and public awareness. The Greater Sacramento Chapter serves over 300 patients, and their families, each year with a mission to discover treatments and a cure for ALS, and to serve, advocate for, and empower people affected by ALS to live their lives to the fullest. They are in need of a volunteer to assist with office administration for up to 8 hours a week, scheduled flexibly within office hours and a volunteers' schedule. Solar Panel Installation

GRID Alternatives is a non-profit that installs solar paneling for low-income home-owners and non-profits who have qualifying buildings FREE of cost!  Volunteers are not required to have previous experience, but are required to attend a short orientation as a way to recieve technical training on solar installation (Age 18+). Installs are 8 hours lead by a licensed solar installer, and after doing orientation a volunteer can sign up to join an install as often or as infrequently as they desire, Monday-Friday all around the Sacramento region.  A certification is also available, ask for further details!




Lead Students in Financial Literacy & Work Readiness

Junior Achievement of Sacramento (JA) is dedicated to giving young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their futures, and make smart academic and economic choices. Ongoing volunteers are needed to lead students in fun, hands-on activities for 30-45 minutes once per week for 5-7 weeks. Volunteers attend a 1 hour training, then are paired with a class (according to a volunteers' location, age, and time preferences) to inspire and empower youth with financial and career skills! Be a "buddy" for youth soccer players with special needs!

Middle & High School students can volunteer to be "buddies" with Placer Youth Soccer League's TOP Soccer program for young athletes with special needs. TOP Soccer provides a safe and active environment for players who are challenged by the demands of traditional soccer while offering an enriching experience for youth volunteers. As a buddy, volunteers encourage, mentor, and guide the soccer players. Spring season will run in April & May, please sign up to get started!




Food Delivery Assistance

River City Food Bank needs a volunteer to join their delivery driver while he picks up donations from local grocery stores each morning.  Sign up for any day Monday-Friday from 7am-11am.  Available for 1-time or for recurring help.  Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.

River City Food Bank hosts 4-week cooking classes regularly to teach the community about how to prepare nutritious meals.  They need knowledgeable volunteers to help (schedule is flexible), commitment is to 4 2-hour classes.




Most Important Meals for Seniors (MIMs)

While most of the community is able to receive their food distribution at the food bank itself, many senior citizens who are food insecure are not able to transport themselves to the facility.  "MIMS" or "Most Important Meals for Seniors" are packed every Tuesday 3pm - 5pm and delivered to homes later during the week.  This would be for individual volunteers or groups of up to 5 people.  One-time or regular assistance needed.




Empower parents by providing childcare

Roseville Home Start transitions homeless families into affordable, sustainable permanent housing and self- sufficiency, through a system of housing and support services that is comprehensive, flexible, accessible and accountable. For parents, affordable childcare is often a barrier. Volunteers can support parents by providing childcare while parents are in case management meetings, therapy, life skills sessions, etc., Ages typically range from 2 - 12 years old, with childcare needs being 1 - 4 hours according to a volunteer's schedule.




Tutoring Children

Roseville Home Start transitions homeless families into affordable, sustainable permanent housing and self- sufficiency, through a system of housing and support services that is comprehensive, flexible, accessible and accountable. Their on-site after school program needs tutors to help one-on-one with children for one or more hours a week. Help a child be successful! Volunteers will need to attend a brief orientation and be background checked.




Youth Program Volunteers

Roseville Police Activities League (RPAL) is a youth-mentoring and community outreach program that provides safe and supervised environments for recreational, athletic, social, educational, and cultural activities.  Volunteers are needed 1-2 days/week for approximately 2 hours, according to volunteer scheduling needs.  Come offer homework help, teach kids crafts or other skills, and otherwise invest your time in our local youth!




Inspire children to live healthy lives as a Rhett Rep!

Runnin' for Rhett is a non-profit dedicated to nurturing healthy communities through fitness and nutrition. Rhett Reps help with their 7-week Youth Fitness Program, which runs in 80 schools in Sacramento and culminate with the Run Because You Can 5K in April. Beginning the week of March 12, Rhett Reps volunteer after school for 2 hours/week, helping the coaches and cheering on students. Reps don't need to be runners to help, only enthusiasm and encouragement to help students succeed during their training. Volunteer trainings will be held on 2/26 and 2/27. Once signed up, volunteers will select a school in their preferred area on day(s) that work into their schedule.




K-3 Literacy Helpers

The Sacramento Chinese Community Center holds an after school program in Elk Grove and is looking for literacy helpers for students K-3rd grade.  Volunteers help 2-4 hours each week, and commit to serving the entire 9 month school year.

Disaster Services

Salvation Army Auburn runs Disaster Services for the surrounding areas. Volunteers can sign up anytime throughout the year in order to be added to a list of available volunteers who assist with food and other resources for first responders and evacuees in times of emergency. In event of an emergency, volunteers are contacted and asked to help for an 8-10 hour shift. Volunteers must be 18 or older, and complete a half-day orientation.




Food Distribution at Salvation Army

With the high demand of food assistance, the Salvation Army needs volunteers to help distibute food to those in need.    Volunteers must wear closed toed, rubber soled shoes.  No flip-flops or sandals.  Minimum age:  18 years.

Seniors First Cafe - Meals for the Elderly

An important component of Seniors First's Senior Nutrition Program is Senior Cafes, neighborhood sites that offer hot meals and companionship five days a week. Besides the nutritional value in each meal, the Cafes also provide socialization for its guests; with many living alone and at risk of isolation, a visit to the cafe may be their only interaction throughout the day. Volunteers are needed to assist guests with small tasks and to spend time with them (no food prep or cooking necessary). Monday-Friday 10:30-1:30, as often as a volunteer is willing and available.

Our volunteers work one hour weekly in local elementary schools assisting students with early literacy skills.
